10 Bizarre Tips You Didn’t Know You Needed: The Weirdest Advice You’ll Ever Hear

Have you ever come across some unconventional advice that actually worked wonders? Well, I stumbled upon a thought-provoking question that got me intrigued. The question read, “What is the weirdest advice you have heard that is strangely effective?”

As I dove deeper, I found some of the most bizarre yet effective pieces of advice people have received.

1. Improve Your Posture

Someone explained the best tip they received was “to improve your posture, you have to pretend that there are lasers shooting out of your chest and trying to shoot people in the head.”

Another added that they related and had a different version. They would take walks and imagine “headlights coming out of there.”

2. Do It Scared

The second top-voted answer was along the lines of ‘if you can’t fight the fear, do it scared.’ The commenter shared that it helped them through a lot of anxiety.

One added that they tell themself their increased heart rate and racing thoughts are just signs that their body is priming itself to allow them to do something they didn’t know they could do. They used to think they were signs of quitting, but they’re really an ignition sequence. That’s super empowering to think about it that way.

3. Don’t Beat Yourself Up Forever

Amy shared that her favorite advice came from Mr. Homer Simson, a notable character from the tv-series called The Simpsons. “Don’t beat yourself up forever. Beat yourself up once, then move on.”

A second expressed their favorite lesson from Homer. For them, it translated to “look back to revisit the lesson, not revisit the shame. You can’t keep blaming yourself. Just blame yourself once, and move on.”

4. Writing an E-mail

One person shared that when writing an e-mail, leave the recipient field until you’re ready to hit send.

Somebody acknowledged this and added that you should add the attachment first if you have attachments to add. Anne commented, “So many times when I started as a contractor, I would send my invoice without… The actual invoice.”

5. How to Unclog Your Nose

Someone described how to unclog their nose. “Close your mouth and pinch your nose so you can’t breathe. Shake your head up and down until you need to breathe. Remove your hand from your nose and breath (through your nose, not your mouth). Been doing this for a while now, and it’s pretty effective.”

Another confirmed this works and then explained how it works. It is because we are often clogged. After all, we have aggravated and swollen the capillaries in our nose by overblowing it. When stopping the oxygen supply, your body goes into survival mode and will restrict the blood vessels to allow as much air as possible to flow through again.

6. Fail Quick

An individual claimed it is to fail quickly for them. If your plan doesn’t succeed, better to find out next week than next year. This helped them quit a suffocating job and dig into their own business, which he rates as a ten out of ten.

A second user clarified this by sharing his experience. He shared he learned this after becoming a father. Not because he’s failing at parenting but because he watches kids fail, fail, and fail some more, and then succeed. “It’s amazing how shamelessly and effortlessly they fail and keep going.”

7. Ask for a Favor

One user shared to get someone to warm to you, ask them for a small favor—not asking to do something for them but asking them to do something for you. They have no idea why this works, but it does.

Someone mentioned it’s because it makes them feel needed and important, at least for you.

8. Stop Being Self-Conscious in Public

This person stated that no one generally cares about you or what you’re doing. No one gives you a second thought once you’re out of their sight. It may be counterintuitive, but it helped this person ease their anxiety immensely. It helped them to stop being self-conscious in public all the time.

Many people related to this. One said no one cares and everyone has their own moments where they’ve done something stupid themselves. They will not take up their brain space to remember someone else’s stupidity when they have their own to cringe about.

9. Time Will Pass

According to one, it’s something their elderly relative says sometimes. Time will pass either way. If you want to get better at something, accomplish a long-term goal, or change careers or credentials, don’t look at the 2-5 years in the future and think you’ll be too old. If you’re 24 and want to go to college, you’ll be 28 in four years, with or without a degree, regardless of what you do in that time.

Somebody mentioned that their grandpa said something familiar when their dad was talking about how he would be fifty once he graduated if he went back to college. Their grandpa responded, “how old will you be if you don’t go?”.

Corran added a quote from Dr. Gregory House from the tv-series called House, “if you’re not willing to look stupid, nothing good is ever gonna happen to you.”
