Despite the advancement of technology and the innovation of new manufacturing processes, some products have degraded over the last decade. Some chalk it up to companies trying to maximize the products’ profitability and epically failing. Others believe that mass production and quick manufacturing methods are the culprits.

Here are 11 common products that are now left with awful quality. 

1. Clothing

Clothing is one of the basic necessities for people to survive. Throughout the years, its quality has degraded so much. T-shirts need to be expensive to last for a long time. If not, they easily shrink after the first wash and come close to being transparent within a month or two. 

2. Appliances

Appliances like washing machines and ovens have operated for decades. Today, after a year, you’ll notice a decline in the appliance’s functions. You’d either have to bring it to a shop for repairs or buy some new parts for replacement.

3. Mobile Games

Mobile games were fun since you can immerse yourself inside the game without care. You can play for free, and you have the option of buying coins and resources inside the game. Today, ads are all over the place. And if you want to get rid of the annoyance, you have to pay for it. 

4. Streaming Platforms

Streaming platforms like YouTube have become popular because of their accessibility, convenience, and the idea of free and a wide variety of content. Today, these platforms have become more similar to cable TV, where commercials reign supreme. The concept of having a “premium” account to eliminate ads is disappointing. 

5. Air Travel

Air travel has degraded in the past decade, with congestion and overbooking being some of the issues responsible for the decline. Even seats in the planes are more crowded and many cases of flight delays and cancellations have crop up. Instead of being regarded as part of the exciting travel, it has become similar to a traffic annoyance. 

6. Pop Tarts

There’s always nostalgia in the taste of pop-tarts and the memory of childhood and camping. Today, the company’s go-to food has become gross and mostly unfrosted. They lessened in quality as they easily lose flavor and become a tasteless treat 12 months after the best-by-date label on the packaging. 

7. Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens is known for their iconic design accompanied by durable leather and air-cushioned soles.

Today, it’s considered one of the brands that have stooped low to compete with cheap brands, taking their quality to the ground. With the mass production, people have considered the brand cheap and less special. 

8. Insurance

Insurance is necessary today, especially if you don’t want to be surprised by situations that can lead to sudden expenses. The problem is that the prices have gone up, and you will only get a little, so you might as well call some of the programs a scam. Instead of helping people, insurance companies are just milking people with their hard-earned money. 

9. Search Engines

Search engines, like Google Search, have become littered with sponsorships with many shops and companies taking the top place of the search pages.

Instead of websites that meet your search keywords and needs, you get shoved with products, like the ones from Amazon, that are somehow related to what you’re searching for. There are also sponsored results that come from unofficial sites with some of them being tools for phishing and scams.

10. News Services

News services, from online news and broadcasts to online magazines, have declined because of the change in platforms. From paper to the cloud, you will get access to news today by subscribing to the company site. Instead of having the choice of buying today’s paper or magazine, you get roped into paying monthly for a subscription. 

11. Ice Cream

Ice cream will always be one of the most enjoyable treats you can get. While technically, it didn’t decline, many of the ones sold in gallons felt like the containers filled with air at the bottom. Some ice cream also doesn’t look or taste like ice cream at all, with many soft-serve offered today.
