15 Movies That Aged Well

Movies are magical and hold some of our most cherished memories. They carry significant meaning and affect our feelings about everything. Some films, for whatever reason, become what we think of as classics after one viewing. 

That said, let’s share some of the movies that aged well and bring in nostalgic memories you want to return to each time you feel lonely, happy, or sad. 

1. The Godfather (1972)

The Godfather tells the story of a New York City mafia family and its influential leader, Don Vito. He is the Godfather, head of one of the wealthiest and most powerful families in New York, and the father of three sons. 

He wants the youngest, Michael, a World War II Marine, to be his successor. Though reluctant, Michael takes over the family business and becomes involved in a violent power struggle within the family. 

2. Jurassic Park (1993)

The movie Jurassic Park tells the story of the creator of a dinosaur theme park who tries to steal the park back from its financiers. Everything was going well until the security systems went out, and the dinos escaped and killed many. 

The reptiles and water lizards hunted them through the park, eliminating everyone in their path. A myth-dispelling scientist, a female dinosaur expert, and two kids do their best to escape from the island while being hunted by the giant beasts.

3. Forrest Gump (1994)

Forrest Gump is about a slow-witted but kind-hearted man named Forrest. Despite his sub-normal IQ, Forrest leads a charmed life and is present at many historic momentsโ€”from teaching Elvis to dance to meeting President Kennedy and Nixon. 

Forrest also joins the army for Vietnam, goes for a run across the USA, and fights in a war for civil rights, showing everyone that being kind and never giving up can make a big difference.

4. Schindler’s List (1993)

The story of Schindler’s List is pretty amazing. A guy named Oskar Schindler manages to save countless Jewish people from the Holocaust by giving them jobs as workers in his factories.

Even though Schindler was part of the Party, he risked his own life and spent his fortune saving his workers by keeping them out of the horrific concentration camps. The film also shows how one person can make a big difference in a terrible situation by being brave and kind.

5. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Another movie that has aged incredibly well is The Shawshank Redemption. Andy (Tim Robbins) is a man wrongly accused of murder and sentenced to Shawshank State Penitentiary. He becomes friends with Red, another prisoner who deals with life behind bars.

He devises a plan to break free from the institution and show everyone how corrupt the prison system is.

6. The Matrix (1999)

The Matrix follows computer hacker Neo, who finds that the world he knows is a simulated reality developed by conscious machines to subdue humans. Neo joins a rebellion with Morpheus and Trinity to free humanity from the machines’ control. 

As Neo manipulates The Matrix through a jaw-dropping action series, he discovers his true destiny as “The One.”

7. Titanic (1997)

In the iconic film Titanic, Jack is a broke artist who falls in love with the wealthy passenger Rose, when they meet aboard the doomed ship. They found their burgeoning romance amid the luxury of the Titanic and before its disastrous end. 

Moments after the Titanic collides with an iceberg, Jack and Rose are swept up in the chaos of the ship sinking. Against all odds, their love survivesโ€”even after Jackโ€™s death. Their story becomes one of hope in the Titanic’s catastrophic final hours.

8. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

The Silence of the Lambs is a psychological movie thriller about an FBI trainee, Clarice Starling, who is trying to capture the serial suspect Buffalo Bill.

To help track Bill down, she asks for the help of Hannibal Lecter, a psychopathic culprit who would much rather play mind games with her.

9. Pulp Fiction (1994)

Pulp Fiction is an interconnected series of stories featuring Los Angeles criminals, their wives, and many other intriguing characters. One storyline involves Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield, who visit an apartment to retrieve a briefcase from Brett, their boss’s associate. 

The two killed Brett, double-crossing their boss. The film has many different personalities with varying storylines, making it exciting to watch.

10. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring takes us along on the quest of Frodo Baggins and a fellowship of friends as they venture deep into the land of Middle-earth to carry out a long-awaited journey. 

Their mission? To destroy the One Ring and save the world from the evil dark lord Sauron. Theyโ€™re met with danger, betrayal, and epic battles as they travel through magical landscapes and confront the ultimate forces of evil.

11. Fight Club (1999)

Fight Club serves a dark and satirical look at the unnamed narrator, who forms an underground fighting club with Tyler Durden, a charismatic soap salesman. We follow them as they grow closer and the club grows, becoming a nationwide anarchist group. 

The consequences are rampant, as the men are driven to the brink of sanity by challenging societal norms. The film discusses themes of perceived weakness, the value of consumerism, and the need to find meaning in a world defined by those perceptions.

12. Good Will Hunting (1997)

Good Will Hunting is the story of a janitor at MIT with a genius-level intellect. When Professor Gerald Lambeau discovers Will’s mathematical talents, he must come to terms with his troubled past and reach out to fulfill his potential.

With the help of therapist Sean Maguire, Will learns to break through emotional barriers and attend to a future rich with possibilities.

13. Saving Private Ryan (1998)

Saving Private Ryan follows U.S. soldiers led by Captain John Miller, who takes on the risky mission to track down and try to save Private James Ryan, the last living brother of four servicemen.

The filmโ€™s press release makes clear the movie is a realistic portrayal of the camaraderie, heroism, and unfathomable sacrifice of men who suffered through the carnage of war, doing their duty with quiet dignity in the face of almost certain death.

14. Die Hard (1988)

The film is set on Christmas Eve in New York City. Cop John McClane arrives in Los Angeles to visit his estranged wife, Holly, at her company’s Christmas party. He receives a warm welcome from her, but it’s a different story with her boss, Takagi, who quickly gets an earful from McClane.

As the festivities take off, the party’s the first to pass awayโ€”when terrorists take control of the skyscraper and round up everyone inside it, including McClane’s wife and her co-workers.

15. Back to the Future (1985)

Back to the Future follows a teenager, Marty McFly, who accidentally transports himself back to 1955 after a mishap with the new DeLorean time machine built by his eccentric scientist friend, Doc Brown.

After changes to the past put his existence at risk, Marty must go through the events of his parentsโ€™ high school years, meeting and then working to ensure his very existence. Marty must find a way back home, traveling through time and breathing life into the future.
