10 Funniest Episodes from The Big Bang Theory

Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Jim Parsons became one of the best actors in the industry primarily due to the popular TV series “The Big Bang Theory.” The show centers on two nerd scientists, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johny Galecki), who became neighbors with a stunning blonde, aspiring actress, Penny (Kaley Cuoco).

This comedy series powered through 11 seasons and 279 episodes in total. And among these masterpieces, these are the funniest episodes you can binge-watch.

1. The Panty Piñata Polarization

Season and Episode: Season 2, Episode 7

Date Aired: November 10, 2008

Sheldon is known for his idiosyncrasies. One of his quirks is counting his friend’s mistakes and banning them from his apartment once they get a third strike. In this episode, Penny did.

Sheldon bans her from their apartment, but Penny doesn’t take it sitting down. This ensues a hilarious war between the two, ending with Penny’s clothes lined up in the telephone wires. It only ceased with Leonard revealing Sheldon’s Kryptonite to Penny just to stop all the nonsense.

2. The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis

Season and Episode: Season 2, Episode 11

Date Aired: December 15, 2008

Sheldon hates gift-giving because of the act of reciprocity, and you can’t get an equal trade from it. When Penny placed her gift to Sheldon under the Christmas tree, Sheldon was annoyed but challenged to prepare a gift with an equal value.

In the end, Penny gives him a napkin used and signed by Leonard Nimoy when he eats at the restaurant she works in. It’s arguably the best gift anyone can give Sheldon. To make up for it (even when it’s impossible to do so), he gave Penny all the gift baskets he had prepared. The scene was both funny and heartwarming.

3. The Adhesive Duck Deficiency

Season and Episode: Season 3, Episode 8

Date Aired: November 16, 2009

The episode was divided into two hilarious scenes. First, Leonard, Howard (Simon Helberg), and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) went to the desert to watch a meteor shower, only to get high.

The other scene focuses on Sheldon and Penny. Sheldon has to take care of Penny after she slips on the shower floor. The funny part is that he has to sing “Soft Kitty” to a Penny who’s fuzzy from pain medications.

4. The Einstein Approximation

Season and Episode: Season 3, Episode 14

Date Aired: February 1, 2010

The episode features Sheldon at one of his lowest points, where he loses himself in a scientific problem he can’t solve. With the continuous lack of answers and sleepless nights, he starts behaving unpredictably, leading to the popular scene where both he and Leonard play in the ball pit. His brain finally settles down after working as a server at the Cheesecake Factory.

5. The Staircase Implementation

Season and Episode: Season 3, Episode 22

Date Aired: May 17, 2010

One of the best things about this series is the flashbacks to how the main characters became who they are in the current timeline. In this episode, Sheldon and Leonard had one of their “roommate agreement” fights. Leonard stayed with Penny to cool off, which led him to tell Penny all about the past, from how he became Sheldon’s roommate to how the elevator became unusable even now.

6. The Justice League Recombination

Date Aired: December 16, 2010

The show often features superhero connections, from DC to Marvel. In this episode, the gang dressed up as The Justice League to compete in the New Year’s Eve Costume contest. Penny’s new boyfriend, Zack (Brian Thomas Smith), wanted to join them. With the awkward situation between exes Leonard and Penny, she doesn’t want to join. Leonard was the one to convince her to come with them. While they won the contest, it ended sadly with Leonard seeing Penny kissing Zack when the clock struck 12.

7. The Prestidigitation Approximation

Season and Episode: Season 4, Episode 18

Date Aired: March 10, 2011

In this episode, Howard shows a card trick to Sheldon and Raj. With Sheldon’s personality, he was so confident he could figure out the trick. Until he can’t, no matter what he does. From reverse-engineering it to plain cheating, nothing seems to work. And watching Sheldon frustrated out of his mind is both funny and satisfying.

8. The Roommate Transmogrification

Season and Episode: Season 4, Episode 24

Date Aired: May 19, 2011

This episode is known for the one when Penny and Raj hooked up. Raj decided to stay at Sheldon’s because it’s awkward in his apartment, where Leonard and Priya spend so much time. He suggested switching with Leonard instead and staying with Sheldon to get out of the situation. Raj then hung out with Penny and Sheldon. After reacting badly to the news about Leonard and Priya (Aarti Mann), Penny gets intoxicated with Raj, which ends both of them in bed.

9. The Scavenger Vortex

Season and Episode: Season 7, Episode 3

Date Aired: October 3, 2013

Raj hosted one of the best scavenger hunts ever in this episode. It features pairings you won’t expect but are surprisingly perfect. Penny is paired with Sheldon, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch), Howard’s wife, with Leonard, and Howard with Amy (Mayim Bialik), Shedon’s girlfriend. The game ended anti-climatic when Raj announced everyone as winners and annoyed all the players.

10. The Bow Tie Asymmetry

Season and Episode: Season 11, Episode 24

Date Aired: May 10, 2018

One of the best episodes of the show is when Sheldon and Amy tie the knot with Mark Hamill as their officiant. Barry (John Ross Bowie) becomes their wedding singer, and Stuart (Kevin Sussman) displays his nerd prowess to all. The entire episode is fun and heartwarming.
