Legal, Yet Raised Eyebrows: 13 Items You Can Own, But Your Neighbors Will Judge

Judging and making assumptions about people based on what you see is a big mistake. But you can’t really stop what others think; some material things just make the wheels in their brains run.

Here are 13 items that will make you look suspicious to your neighbors, even if they are legal.

1. Having a Shovel, Rope, and Gloves in the Trunk

Whether it’s too much crime documentary or just plain paranoia, your neighbors will look at you weirdly if they see you putting a shovel, rope, and pair of gloves in your trunk. While it may seem like you’re just planning to tend to your garden, it may appear like something else. And some people just get the heebie-jeebies when they see you digging.

2. Collection of Other People’s Hair

There’s something creepy about people’s hair once they’re not attached to the head. Imagine seeing a collection of people’s hair.

3. Three Phones

When you are using three phones, it appears like you’re hiding some call logs you don’t want anyone to see. If you’re married, it might be your burner phone for your lover.

Judgmental as it may sound, no one uses three phones. Two phones may be understandable for personal and professional use.

4. Collection of Nazi Memorabilia

If you have a collection of Nazi memorabilia, then it might mean you support their principles and concepts. It’s not illegal to collect Nazi memorabilia.

5. Multiple Padlocks on Your Basement Door

If someone sees multiple padlocks on your basement door, it will just make them curious about what you’re hiding. Their minds will go into overdrive, thinking that you might have kidnapped someone and kept them in your basement.

6. Lock Picks

There’s nothing wrong with having lock picks, but you will have a bad reputation when your neighbors see you holding them. They are often regarded as tools for thieves. Even if picking locks is just an interesting hobby, your neighbors will still think you’re doing something shady.

7. Too Many of One Item

While there’s nothing wrong with having so many pieces of one innocuous thing, some people perceive it as a bit weird.

It will raise some eyebrows if you have 15 stoves or 30 feather dusters. Having 15 pencils might be acceptable, but many stoves will have the neighbors side-eye you.

8. Multiple PVC Stuff

PVC is the most common and popular type of plastic that’s used as pipes. Even if you’re fixing something in your home’s plumbing, others think you’re out to build a potato cannon and wreak havoc.

9. Ritual Dagger

When you have a dagger, the kind that was used in rituals in the past, your neighbors will feel you’re involved in some cult practices. Keeping such an object is bothersome whether you’re interested in these rites or not. It’s never illegal to display it in your living room or bedroom.

10. Fake Human Skull

If you’re looking for the perfect decor for Halloween, a fake human skull is one of the fitting items you can use. People might call you weird when you use it for decor during regular days.

11. Suspiciously Large Homework Folder

Having a suspiciously large homework folder makes you appear like working for secret government agencies like the CIA. Others will think you’re keeping track of everyone or possessing confidential files.

Of course, it’s not illegal to carry heavy folders, but people will look at you as if you’re doing something suspicious.

12. Bolt Cutters and Crowbar

When you buy a crowbar and bolt cutters in the hardware store, it always feels like you need to explain to the cashier what you’re using them for. It might be out of pure embarrassment so that others won’t judge you.

It’s funny because you don’t have to, but you do it anywhere just to say you’re not about to do something illegal in the first place.

13. Duct Tape and Cable Ties

Duct tape and cable ties are innocent on their own, but when they’re together, they draw a picture you don’t want other people to think about you. These are simple packaging items, but they’re also often used by criminals who’re out to kidnap someone.
