10 Celebrities Who Self-Destructed in the Public Eye: The Fastest Downfalls

Celebrities are in the spotlight, and it’s one of the reasons why some of their private interactions can easily be made public. With all eyes on them, it’s not surprising that some of them self-destructed when everyone was looking. Here are 10 celebrities famous for their public downfalls.

1. Ezra Miller

Ezra Miller is at the top of the list. He made quite a name for himself for being Credence in the Fantastic Beasts franchise and The Flash in DC’s Justice League. He has been involved in several controversies over the years, starting in 2020 when a video of him choking a fan went viral.

Someone jokingly said that “every Ezra Miller headline is just a MadLib at this point. Ezra Miller commits [felony] in [random location] while talking about [whatever dude just write something].” Despite the bright future ahead in the DC universe, everything just became a huge disappointment.

2. Kevin Spacey

Next on the list is American actor, producer, and director Kevin Spacey.  He is an Academy, Tony, and Golden Awards winner and is known for his roles in the movies American Beauty and Se7en and the Netflix series House of Cards

His downfall started when several allegations of sexual assault and misconduct were made against him in recent years. Someone shared, “Kevin Spacey getting revealed to be a predator, using his sexuality as an excuse, getting fired from his projects, and then posting an insane super-villain-level youtube video as Frank Underwood basically blaming the viewers for being complicit.”

3. Mark Salling

The third on the list is American actor and singer-songwriter Mark Sailing. He was popular for playing in the TV series Glee’s Puck. He was embroiled and charged in a child pornography controversy in 2015. In 2018, he pled guilty to the crime and, while waiting for his sentencing, took his life shortly after.

Someone said, “50,000 images were found on a device, as they count every video frame as a different image.”

4. Chris Farley

Chris Farley is an American comedian and actor popular in the 1990s, particularly as a cast member on Saturday Night Live until 1995. His downfall sprung from his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction.

Someone in the thread claimed, “From what I had heard about him, the saddest thing was that he was almost completely alone. Had no real friends to hang out with or unwind or have fun with. The night of his death, he paid a hooker to hang out with—not just for sex, but to have someone there with him.” The end of his suffering was marked by his death due to drug overdoses at the age of 33 in 1997.

5. Armie Hammer

The next on the list is Armie Hammer, an American actor popular for his roles in the movies Call Me By Your Name and The Social Network. He seemed to be on a roll until recent years when he was embroiled in controversy over sexual misconduct and abuse, which he denied everything.

Someone claimed that the actor “comes from a crazy, Succession-like family with the name Armand Hammer passed down to every generation.”

6. John Wilkes Booth

John Wilkes Booth, an American actor popular for assassinating President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865, at Ford’s Theater in Washington, D.C., is also part of this list. He was an actor and a well-known Confederate sympathizer during the Civil War.

Someone also mentioned that “no other actor has fallen so much after they literally KILLED the president and became the most wanted man in the country.”

7. Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. is the next celebrity on the list who self-destructed in public. He started his career in the 1980s, not in his popular gig as Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes but in the movies Natural Born Killers and Chaplin. His early downfall was caused by his struggles with drug addiction and several arrests.

One person described it as “a pretty destructive spell but an incredible recovery.” Someone even added, “I don’t think we will ever see someone fall so hard and rebound so high ever again.”

8. Bill Cosby

Bill Cosby is an American comedian and actor that made a name for himself in the 1960s and 1970s, specifically in the hit TV show The Cosby Show. After decades of fame and allegations of sexual misconduct and assault, he was finally found guilty in 2018.

One even claimed that “it wasn‘t a downward spiral as in a quick shift in his behavior, he had been doing it for years and decades and only now got found out and prosecuted.”

9. Ian Watkins

Lostprophets lead vocalist Ian Atkins became popular in the 2000s with several successful singles and albums. It was in 2013 that he was charged with horrendous crimes against children, including attempted rape of a baby and other sexual offenses. He pled guilty and was sentenced to 29 years in prison.

According to someone, “the worst part: people knew.” Another in the thread said, “Man had ZERO shame whatsoever.”
